The K-Electric (KE) has carried out an operation in the New Sabzi Mandi area with the help of law-enforcement agencies, in which it removed 1,200 illegal connections (kundas) weighing 2,500 kilogrammes.

In a statement, the KE said the removed connections had been stealing 110,000 units of electricity every month. The kunda connections used for electricity theft were installed by bypassing the safety protocols of the network. These illegal connections also posed significant risks to the KE's infrastructure and the public.

The power utility stated that it had been running campaigns aimed at reducing losses and protecting the electricity infrastructure. It added that currently, 70 per cent of its network was exempt from loadshedding, while efforts to reduce losses in high-theft areas continued.

The KE cited power theft and non-payment of bills as two main factors determining the duration of loadshedding in an area. Areas with lower losses suffered little or no loadshedding, it said highlighting the benefits of responsible electricity use and timely bill payments.
