Crackdown on traffic law violators to intensify, warns Sharjeel
The Sindh government’s ongoing crackdown against motor vehicles involved in violation of the traffic rules has so far resulted in the impounding of 17,980 motorbikes.
A statement issued on Sunday quoted Senior Minister for Information and Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon as saying that so far action has been taken against 1,295 four-wheelers due to the use of fancy registration number plates, tinted glasses and other unlawful gadgets.
Memon said police have impounded 308 light and heavy goods transport vehicles. Police later conditionally released 230 of these vehicles after suspending their registration for the time being.
The conditions laid down by police in this regard include technical improvement of the vehicles, renewal of the fitness certificates and other such upgrades of the erring goods carriers. The minister said that such violations and disregard for the traffic rules endangers the safety of the residents. He said that the ongoing crackdown had been launched to ensure the safety and the security of people’s lives and properties by taking practical steps.
He emphasised that violation of the traffic rules is not a misdemeanour but an act that endangers the collective safety of people. He said action against the vehicles involved in violating the traffic rules would continue on an indiscriminate basis.
He stressed that violation of the law would not be tolerated by the government. This is just the beginning of the campaign against erring vehicles, as the drive will be intensified in the coming days, he added. He made an appeal to all the residents to fully cooperate with the law enforcement agencies and avoid the practices that violate the traffic laws.
