Non-allocation of reserved seats to PTI: KP govt to move PHC against ECP

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to move the Peshawar High Court (PHC) against the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) for non-allocation of reserved seats to Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) in the elected assemblies.

“The KP government will file a writ petition against the ECP for not allocating seats reserved for women and minorities to the PTI,” said Adviser to Chief Minister on Information and Public Relations, Barrister Muhammad Ali Saif, in a statement issued here on Friday.

He said the KP cabinet meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, the other day, approved the decision to file the writ in the PHC. The adviser to the chief minister said that the CEC had committed contempt of court and violated the Article 6 of the Constitution by not complying with the apex court’s verdict.

Meanwhile, Barrister Saif said that necessary steps were being taken for the revival of the student unions.

“We will soon arrange a meeting of the student unions’ leaders with the chief minister. And all decisions will be taken in consultation with them,” he told an all students parties conference at Al-Markaz Islami here.

He said the student unions had been banned during General Ziaul Haq’s martial law. He added the unions used to produce good leaders and there was no justification to ban them.
