LAHORE: Punjab’s first unique Livestock Card will be activated on December 15, announced Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz as she directed authorities to initiate the historic scheme for Punjab’s livestock farmers within a few months.

“Punjab’s farmers will be on the path to development and progress with the launch of this unprecedented project,” she said. “Registration for the card has already started and 80,000 farmers across Punjab will benefit from the project.”

She explained that the card will enable farmers to purchase ‘Wanda,’ mineral mixtures, and silage from registered dealers. “Cattle farmers will also be able to access an interest-free loan of Rs27,000 per animal,” she said, adding that they can apply for a loan of up to Rs270,000 per cattle head. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz elaborated, “Livestock farmers will repay the loan in four equal installments, with payments beginning after four months.”

She urged farmers to register for the card by visiting their nearest veterinary hospital and said, “Farmers can also send a message to 8070 with their PLC and ID card number to apply. For further assistance, a helpline (0800-09211) has been activated.” She added: “All measures are being taken to ensure the economic independence of every farmer in Punjab’s villages. We are committed to fully supporting Punjab’s farmers and cattle growers. The journey of development has begun and we aim to make everyone a stakeholder in this progress.”
