PESHAWAR: The Alkhidmat Foundation has pledged free medical treatment for severe health conditions among drug addicts, supporting the city’s Drug-Free Peshawar campaign which is set to launch on November 7.
The initiative, which targets the rehabilitation and care of over 2,000 drug addicts, aims to address both addiction recovery and the treatment of serious ailments such as HIV/AIDS, hepatitis, and other complex diseases often found in addiction cases.
Dr Iqtedar, a psychiatrist and addiction specialist at Alkhidmat Hospital, announced this support during a recent meeting with Commissioner Peshawar Division Riaz Khan Mahsud. The commissioner commended the foundation’s commitment to providing specialized healthcare and directed the District Social Welfare Officer to coordinate closely with Alkhidmat Foundation.
The commissioner specified that once drug addicts undergo initial rehabilitation, those needing extended treatment for other diseases would be transferred to Alkhidmat Hospital for further care. The Drug-Free Peshawar campaign will see over 2,000 drug addicts taken into custody and transferred to rehabilitation centres, where Alkhidmat Foundation will offer additional medical support.
