Imran Khan was a cricketing hero and is credited with building cancer hospitals in memory of his cancer-stricken mother. However, these worthy achievements enabled him to morph into a cult leader with a large following. Such leaders are universally known to be obsessed with themselves. As prime minister, Imran alienated his coalition partners and even some party members so that they ganged up to show him the door.
As he is used to fighting till the last ball, he has not accepted his defeat and, in the process, has landed himself in legal troubles. Despite his attempts to mend fences after the May 9 mayhem, the state has made it clear that the perpetrators of May 9 will never be forgiven and that the only way back for Imran Khan’s PTI is to apologize to the nation.
