The Garfield Movie sequel moves forward with Chris Pratt returning behind the mic to lend his voice to the famous orange, lasagne-loving feline.
The Jurassic World star will reprise his role as the iconic, Monday-hating, sassy tabby in Alcon Entertainment’s upcoming animated sequel. Like last year, Sony Pictures will once again distribute the upcoming film globally, excluding China.
Notably, the first film, which saw Jon Arbuckle’s snarky pet reconnect with his father—voiced by Samuel L. Jackson—was a box office hit, grossing over $260 million worldwide.
Alcon has acquired the rights from Jim Davis, who will serve as an executive producer on the untitled movie with Bridget McMeel from Amuse. John Cohen and Steven P. Wegner will serve as producers along with Alcon principals Andrew Kosove and Broderick Johnson. In addition to his vocal contribution, Pratt, 46, will serve as a producer on the film.
Producers are currently in talks with potential writers and directors to helm the new film, which will focus on the ever-reluctant adventurer and ultimate couch potato with claws.
Interestingly, Garfield isn’t the only animated franchise the Guardians of the Galaxy actor is involved in. He’s been in the animation game for a long time, beginning with The Lego Movie in 2014 and its sequel in 2019, followed by Pixar’s Onward in 2020, and The Super Mario Bros. movie in 2023.
Pratt is also set to return as Mario in the highly anticipated sequel, scheduled for release in spring 2026.
Additionally, on the work front, Pratt’s upcoming projects include the Mercy and Way of the Warrior Kid.
