Chloe Zhao’s Hamnet has made its mark in the sight of movie critics.

Prior to the world release, the film has gained massive amount of positive reviews following its limited sighting.

The film centres on the marriage of Agnes and William Shakespeare, portrayed by Jessie Buckley and Paul Mescal, and on the tragic impact of the loss of their eleven-year-old son, Hamnet.

A critic from Mashable described the film as a major contender in this award season, calling it “a drama that is more than a sentimental tearjerker poised for Oscar accolades; it is an earthy and poetic, raw tale of love and loss.”

Praising the cast, they added, "In early scenes of courting, they sizzle, each utilizing their well-reputed onscreen intensity. As the Shakespeare marriage gets complicated by distance and grief, they become explosions, destined to collide."

Another critic from San Francisco Chronicle, shared a different perspective.

They said, "Hamnet is an effective movie to the extent that it imagines a glowing personality and life for a woman who is barely remembered historically."

"But when it runs out of story midway and starts exploring the inspiration for Hamlet, it starts to fall apart. It becomes sentimental. Even worse, it becomes nonsensical," they noted.

The Time Out labels critic added, that film was a "Tudor tearjerker" and asserted that both Buckley and Mescal delivered the strongest performances of their career.

In addition to that, Hamnet currently holds 87% rating at Rotten Tomatoes, based on 86 reviews.

Hamnet is slated for release in theatres on November 26.
