Directive to use AI to ease traffic congestion

LAHORE:Commissioner has directed for taking help of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline traffic congestion in the provincial metropolis.

The decision was taken in a meeting chaired by Commissioner Zaid bin Maqsood regarding traffic congestion and traffic flow in the city. The Commissioner has directed getting help of AI traffic learning by Safe City cameras on different 5 points (roads) of traffic obstruction in the city.

He said that all the causes of obstruction in the traffic flow will be remedied by continuous AI traffic learning. He directed LWMC to remove all waste containers from the main roads in the first phase to improve traffic flow.

The commissioner directed Tepa and district administration to remove illegal and unnecessary signboards from roads and footpaths. He directed that action must be taken to identify illegal parking and traffic jams in the city with the help of Safe City cameras.

He was told in the briefing that in the first phase, town-wise removal of encroachment, illegal parking, and traffic awareness camps were working. He said that Tepa should check the lane marking on the traffic signals and paint lane marking as required.

The commissioner assigned the task of removing excess poles and boards from all the roads of the city. He said that the traffic can be kept flowing in the city only under the practical traffic engineering plan.

He said that practical steps were being taken according to the clear instructions of the CM regarding comprehensive traffic interventions in Lahore. Along with road and signal design changes, a comprehensive plan was also indispensable for traffic education and awareness, he said and added that there must be parking in approved parking areas of commercial buildings and for this enforcement was the key. He also said that traffic flow can be improved through road design changes, patchwork, signs, boards, tire killers installations and other measures.
