TIMERGARA: Two personnel of the security forces were martyred while three police cops were injured in a joint search and strike operation in Lower Dir district, sources said on Saturday.
The sources said that the police and personnel of the FC were jointly conducting the operation during which an encounter took place between the security forces and terrorists. The exchange of fire left two FC soldiers martyred and three cops wounded.
Following the incident, the sources said, the hideouts of the terrorists were targeted with artillery fire and helicopter gunships in Shahi near the Afghan border in Lower Dir.
The exchange of fire continued intermittently in the remote mountainous areas.
Meanwhile, official sources said that a large number of police and personnel of the security forces were deployed along the Pak-Afghan border to prevent the terrorists from infiltrating into the Upper Dir district. The police and Levies personnel were also deployed at various locations along the border.
