Returning to Peshawar after 10 months, I have noticed that not a single pothole in any of the roads in the city has been repaired. The provincial government, to my knowledge, had allocated billions for road construction in last year’s budget but have failed to repair a single road in Peshawar during the entire year. In the University Town area, the local government has started the reconstruction of a footpath while all the roads are full of potholes. Sadly, the footpath will be constructed with uneven bricks and large electric poles in the middle of it, making it unusable for pedestrians. Eventually, all the pedestrians will be walking on the pothole filled roads.
Road repair is not a difficult task and the government has the equipment, the personnel and the resources to fix roads as soon as there is a fault, but for some reason this routine work is not being followed in the capital city of KP. I therefore request the new KP government to look into the usage of funds for roads for last year to figure out why no repair work was conducted while also regularly repairing the roads in Peshawar. Better roads will reduce traffic issues and improve the quality of life in the city.
