HARIPUR: A station house officer was suspended and constable was dismissed from service after a departmental inquiry found them guilty of extortion and harassing the tourists in the limits of Makhniyal Police Station, official sources said h on Thursday.
Police sources said that Constable Shoaib Khan was posted in Makhniyal Police Station and during his duty hours he was accused of extortion and harassing and intimidating the tourists entering the limits of Makhniyal.
Some of the tourists’ complaints, police sources said, also went viral on social media forcing the senior officers to swing into action. During the departmental probe, according to the police sources, Shoaib, who used to introduce himself as Zain Khan during duty hours, was found guilty with undeniable proof.
The inquiry also found the Station House Officer Makhniyal Police Station Inspector Habibullah Khan guilty of backing the accused constable.Following departmental inquiry, the constable was removed from the service and arrested after registration of a criminal case against him under section 506 and 341 (1) PPC.
When approached for comments, the Sub-Division Police Officer Khanpur Uzair Khan confirmed the report adding that the departmental inquiry was supported by intelligence gathering against the accused constable and SHO.
He warned all those policemen of severe punitive action who were earning a bad name to the force by indulging in activities in contravention of their prime responsibility of protecting the life, honour and property of the citizens.
