LWMC all set for post-Eid cleanliness

LAHORE:Under the directives of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, the Lahore Waste Management Company (LWMC) has finalised all preparations for the Grand Cleanliness Challenge on Eidul Azha.

The LWMC's comprehensive cleaning operation plan was under way to ensure a clean environment and timely waste collection during Eid. LWMC CEO Babar Sahib Din was actively supervising the cleaning operation.

He highlighted that the LWMC control room, 291 service delivery camps, 105 temporary collection points, and five dumping sites have been activated for 24-hour live monitoring. For Eid, 1.4 million eco-friendly waste bags were being distributed free-of-charge across Lahore. Additionally, 30 model camps have been established to facilitate citizens and provide eco-friendly bags. Over 15,000 staff members, including 10,000 sanitary workers, 3,000 drivers, and 2,000 support staff, will work in three shifts to maintain cleanliness. A zero-waste operation was conducted on Chand Raat in key areas and markets, covering more than 250 mosques and Eidgahs. All LWMC vehicles and machinery, including 3,430 pick-ups, 328 excavators, 551 trolleys, 233 loaders, and 924 dumpers, will be used the three days of Eid.

To ensure the machinery remains operational, a helpline (1139), social media channels, fleet monitoring, waste collection, and mechanical staff will be on duty. Additionally, over 50 trained staff members will conduct digital monitoring of the cleaning operations from the state-of-the-art control room at the LWMC headquarters. The field activities will be monitored live using the PITB application and Safe City cameras. According to LWMC spokesperson Umar Chaudhry, the vacation of 15,000 sanitary workers, drivers, and support staff, including LWMC officers, have been revoked.

Moreover, CEO Babar Sahib Din inspected various model camps and temporary collection points set up across the City. He visited model camps at Allah Ho Chowk, Wapda Town, Chatri Chowk, and Adda Plot, examining their facilities and operations. He reviewed model camps at Shalimar Garden, Lakshmi Chowk, Jamia Naimiya, and Station Chowk. He also inspected temporary collection points at Fuji Mor, Raiwind Road, Wahdat Road, Multan Road, and Data Ganj Bakhsh Town. To enhance public convenience, model camps have been established at Barkat Market, Liberty Chowk, Siddique Trade Centre, Jail Road, and Faisal Chowk. Environment-friendly waste bags are being distributed to citizens.

Furthermore, cleaning crews equipped with machinery are stationed at eight cattle markets across the City. CEO Babar Sahib Din commended the workers and distributed Eid gifts. To ensure cleanliness at the City's 181 animal sacrifice altars during all three days of Eid, 152 trolleys and 69 tractor loaders have been deployed. Following Eid, zero-waste operations will be conducted at designated dumping points and cattle markets to dispose of waste efficiently. CCTV cameras will monitor individuals illegally dumping garbage in the canal. The LWMC helpline (1139) and social media channels will remain active 24/7 to address citizens' complaints promptly.
