Bribe rejected
By News Desk
June 17, 2024
This letter refers to the news report ‘Court rejects plea for return of Rs1.6m given to police as bribe’ (June 14, 2024). The first thing that shocked me is that the low-ranking police officer dared to stop the truck carrying smuggled betel nuts. Everyone knows that smuggling is the one thing that is regarded as essential for the country to progress.
The second shocking thing was the cop’s refusal to accept the bribe. What is the country coming to? Policemen have to pay lakhs to get jobs and even more to get posted to places like Karachi and Lahore. This honest policeman should be examined by a team of professionals to determine if he poses a danger to society.
