Thalassaemia awareness walk
LAHORE: On the eve of World Blood Donor Day, an awareness walk was organised in the Institute of Blood Transfusion which was led by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique.
Prof Shabnam Bashir, Dr Amna, Dr Jawaria and other faculty members were present on this occasion. Children suffering from thalassaemia also participated in the walk. Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the main objective of the awareness walk was to raise awareness among the people, adding the Punjab government was trying to ensure safe treatment of patients in hospitals across the province.
'We are increasing the capacity of blood banks at the district level,' he said and added 'The Institute of Blood Transfusion is going to be upgraded.' The minister further said that illegal blood banks would not be allowed to operate across the province.
