SWABI. Precious trees were gutted when a wildfire broke out in the Mangalchai jungle, a mountainous region of Gadoon Amazai, on Wednesday night, Rescue 1122 officials said on Thursday.

They said that they dispatched their teams to control the wildfire after the local people informed them about the inferno.“We tried our best to extinguish the fire and save the precious trees but it was a very difficult exercise in the mountainous region. However, the fire reignited after we managed to put it out after several hours of effort,” said an official.

The locals said that a large quantity of precious trees were reduced to ashes in the inferno. “The wildfire not only destroyed the precious trees but also affected the wildlife in the mountainous area,” said another local.

The rescue officials said though it was a difficult task, they were trying their best to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading into more areas of the mountain after hours of efforts.

It was the second blaze that had broken out in the sane jungle within a month. The locals also demanded the government to launch a probe into the frequent incidents of wildfires in various jungles of the province.
