Islamabad : Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday announced the construction of the modern Quaid-i-Azam Health Tower in the federal capital in line with international standards.

He ordered the development of an action plan for the project under the public-private partnership. Chairing a meeting here to review matters related to the health sector, PM has directed authorities concerned to depute the most capable health professionals in the national health services ministry and its relevant departments to provide best medical facilities to people.

He said the health tower should include top-quality hospitals, a medical university, a nursing university, modern technology-equipped laboratories and diagnostic centres for diseases.

The prime minister said despite establishing the highly standard hospitals, medical and nursing universities, modern laboratories and diagnostic centres would also be established in the health tower. “The health sector is an extremely important and sensitive sector, tasked with the crucial duty of saving human lives. I will personally oversee health-related matters in Islamabad,” he said.

Expressing concern about the growing incidence of polio cases in the country, the prime minister said the government was committed to eradicating polio from the country by utilising all resources in collaboration with all stakeholders. He directed authorities to conduct a third-party audit of the nursing schools and colleges and Drug Regulatory Authority under the Ministry of Health. Shehbaz also ordered audit of nursing schools and colleges across the country and said a plan of action should be submitted him to separate the drug pricing role from the DRAP.
