Police start probe into attack on Raoof Hasan
Given dense population and heavy traffic in the area, millions of mobile phones could fall within the geo-fencing perimeter, making the filtering process extremely difficult and labor-intensive
ISLAMABAD: The capital police have launched investigation into assassination attempt on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Secretary Information Raoof Hasan.
A police team under the SSP (investigation) is employing modern techniques to track down transgender person and others allegedly involved in the incident. SSP Hasan Jahangir Wattoo told ‘The News’ that they have installed geo-fencing technology at the crime scene to begin their work. He sounded confident that police would be able to trace the perpetrators.
“The duration for completing investigative process can vary depending on circumstances—it could take three days, or even three months to detect the culprits. However, the success rate is more than 95 percent. If the suspects had not carried their mobile phones (during the attack), it could pose challenges,” the official explained. He further clarified that if one of the suspects used a mobile phone during the incident, geo-fencing technology could help identify him within three days. Otherwise, utilising this technology could become a lengthy exercise, potentially taking up to three months for successful results.
Given the dense population and heavy traffic in the area, millions of mobile phones could fall within the geo-fencing perimeter, making the filtering process extremely difficult and labor-intensive.
Additionally, CCTV cameras captured footage of the suspects, which will aid the investigation, the officer maintained. The officials engaged in the probe are also seeking help from transgender persons’ gurus to collect information about the transgender people having criminal record.
The police have also forwarded video footages of the attack on the PTI leader to the Federal Investigation Agency for forensic analysis to confirm its veracity, police sources said.
