PESHAWAR: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Faisal Karim Kundi said on Tuesday the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) would start a new era of development in the country.
He expressed these views while addressing a ceremony organized at China Window to mark the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of Pakistan-China diplomatic relations.Diplomats from Iran and Afghanistan and people from other walks of life were present on the occasion.
The governor visited various galleries of the China Window, signed the friendship wall, and recorded his views in the guest book.He officially launched a video on the Pakistan-China friendship and cut the 73rd-anniversary cake.
Addressing the ceremony, the governor said China had supported Pakistan in every difficult time. “The CPEC will stabilize our economy,” he said and gave the credit for the cluster of projects to President Asif Ali Zardari when he held the coveted office from 2008 to 2013.
The governor said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will visit China from June 4 and the second phase of CPEC would be discussed for a speedy implementation.He said the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China has completed 73 years.
“The China Window has provided a good opportunity to bring the people of the two countries closer,” Kundi added.The governor congratulated the people of China on the 73rd anniversary of friendship and hoped that the people of Pakistan and China would continue to share in each other’s happiness in the future.
Earlier, China Window Administrator Amjad Aziz Malik said May marked the establishment of diplomatic relations between Pakistan and China.“This journey of friendship began on May 21, 1951, and since then China has supported Pakistan in every difficult time. And Pakistan, too, has always shared joy and sorrow with the Chinese people,” he added.
The administrator said the China Window was a state-of-the-art Chinese Cultural Centre established almost five years ago.He said the Chinese language courses were taught at the centre as well apart from arranging other cultural and academic activities.
