Haleem tells govt to rescue Pakistani students from Bishkek
Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Sindh President Haleem Adil Sheikh said on Sunday that Pakistani students are trapped in Kyrgyzstan, but “the government has done nothing beyond issuing statements”.
Reacting to the prime minister’s decision to send two high-ranking ministers, Ishaq Dar and Amir Muqam, to Kyrgyz capital Bishkek, Sheikh said that this is not the time to send officials but to send planes to rescue the stranded students and bring them back home.
The PTI leader called for the immediate initiation of emergency flight operations and the opening of a green corridor to ensure the safe return of Pakistani nationals. He emphasised that steps should have been taken from the very first day.
“The prime minister, the army chief and the interior minister should have communicated with their Kyrgyz counterparts to secure the safe return of our students. Even now the situation remains dire, and our children are still trapped. The federal government has yet to take any action.”
Sheikh said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has pledged to cover all the expenses, and urged the Sindh government to do the same.
“While Sindh government ministers are seen travelling in planes, our children must also be safely returned, and special flights should be arranged. Numerous children from Sindh are stranded in Bishkek. The government must engage firmly with the Kyrgyz authorities to resolve this matter urgently.”
