PESHAWAR: Over 3000 policemen will be deputed as more checking points were set up and patrolling was increased in the provincial capital as part of security measures for Eidul Fitr.

A police official said a special security plan has been chalked out for the entire province during the Eid holidays.

Capital City Police Officer Ashfaq Anwar directed all the sub-divisional officers and station house officers to discourage festive firing on Chand Raat - the night before Eidul Fitr — and take strict action against those violating the ban on celebratory gunshots.

The police in Peshawar have been alerted for the last couple of days of Ramazan and during Eidul Fitr amid threats of attacks. The force has been directed to remain vigilant at trade centers and public places and keep an eye on every suspicious person and movement. Apart from regular police, the City Patrol and Ababeel Squad have also been deputed for security.

Apart from trade centers, mosques, parks and other public places, security has been beefed up at the entry points to the city.Patrolling has also been increased in several areas after the rise in incidents of street crimes ahead of Eid.

The station house officers have been directed to take care of the locked homes after their owners leave for native towns. Many houses are burglarized on such occasions when the families leave for native towns. In some districts, police officers visited the families of cops martyred in terrorist attacks. Some of the cops paralyzed after the attacks were visited as well and presented gifts by the police officers.
