LAHORE: District-level committees, led by deputy commissioners of various districts in Punjab, have recommended the cancellation of 3,286 fake national identity cards held by Afghan citizens. According to documents, the Special Branch has been assigned a significant role in the second phase of Afghan repatriation. Provincial intelligence agencies have completed geo-mapping of 13,183 Afghan citizen cardholders so far.
The report also reveals that most Afghan citizen cardholders’ addresses have not been found in the lists provided by the federal government and solid policies have not yet been formulated regarding the complex cases. This situation could create hurdles in their repatriation and may result in pending cases in courts concerning their return.
According to documents, 25,359 illegal foreign citizens have voluntarily left Punjab, while 1,139 have been arrested and deported. Instructions have been issued to deputy commissioners, DPOs, Special Branch and district anti-intelligence committees across Punjab to share real-time data entries of ACC holders and their families with other stakeholders.
Approval has been granted by the Punjab government to establish Afghan Citizen Card Holders Identification Committees.
These committees at the district level will include representatives from Special Branch, CTD, ISI, Military Intelligence, district police, NADRA, district administration, revenue and local government representatives.
