The resignation of the principal of Aitchison College is a very serious matter and must be investigated by a neutral committee to unearth the truth. Interference in the policies and operational matters of any institution is tantamount to weakening the institution, which is not only harmful for the institution but damaging for the country as well. Aitchison College in Lahore is a very reputable institution and a precious national asset.
The country’s rulers must facilitate such institutions to encourage progress and not interfere in their operational matters. Meanwhile, the Punjab governor has reportedly said that the principal was earning a salary of Rs40 lacs and that an audit of his salary has been initiated. I think this is a highly inappropriate statement and appears to be reflective of a common practice prevalent in Pakistan which is to blame your opponent for corruption when the latter disagrees with you on principles.
