This letter refers to the article ‘How democracy was derailed (Part I) (April 21, 2024) by Asad Umar. Our elections tend to leave many, if not most, of the people discontent and this year’s polls were no exception. For some countries, democracy is probably not as feasible as it is for some other countries.
One hopes that Pakistan does not fall into the former category and political as well as electoral reforms will be undertaken to consolidate civilian rule. Independence of all institutions is the key to ensuring a truly democratic country.
