‘Cleaning of cities, villages among top priorities of Maryam Nawaz’

PAKPATTAN: Punjab Local Government Secretary Mian Shakeel Ahmed has said that cleaning of cities and villages is among the top priorities of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz.

The completion of the ongoing PISIP Programme in Sahiwal city will solve the problems of sewerage and water supply of the citizens. He was presiding over a performance review meeting of the PISIP Programme and Local Government Department in the Commissioner’s Office.

Commissioner Sahiwal Division Shoaib Iqbal Syed, Deputy Commissioner Sahiwal Ikramul Haq, Director Local Government Dr Saifullah, Chief Engineer PISIP Muhammad Tahir, Chief Officer Municipal Corporation Ashfaq Ahmed, Chief Officer District Council Muhammad Nawaz and City Manager PISIP Muhammad Asjad Khan attended the meeting.

The LG secretary reviewed the ongoing projects under the PISIP Programme in detail and directed for their early completion. He appreciated the efforts of Commissioner Sahiwal Shoaib Iqbal Syed in completing the projects. Secretary Local Government Mian Shakeel Ahmed said that the government was trying to improve the sanitation system of the cities so that garbage could be disposed of in a better way. He said that 57,000 metric tons garbage was being generated daily in Punjab, out of which only 18,000 metric tons garbage was being disposed.

26 SHOPKEEPERS FINED: Total 83 price control magistrates are checking rates of commodities on daily basis to make it possible for the public to get food items at official rates during Ramazan in the division.

According to an official statement, they have conducted a record 48,580 inspections in the first 15 days of March and a fine of Rs 48,500 was imposed on 26 shopkeepers for profiteering. The price control magistrates also got 48 cases registered and arrested 223 people, besides sealing 15 shops.
