Grand Democratic Alliance Information Secretary Sardar Abdul Rahim on Saturday condemned what he called the skyrocketing inflation and the closure of gas and electricity during Sehri and Iftar timings in the month of Ramazan.
He said that increasing prices of items of daily use and cuts in the supply of power and gas were the outcome of the government's incompetence.
Rahim, who is also the general secretary of the Pakistan Muslim League-Functional, added that the incompetence and corruption of the government and institutions in the Islamic month of fasting had given the hoarders complete freedom to increase prices.
“The prices of food items are skyrocketing. Onions, tomatoes, potatoes and other vegetables, flour, rice, sugar and edible oil are out of reach of the poor and working class,” he remarked, adding that the labourers and low-income classes were unable to feed their children two times a day.
He lamented that poor and starving people were being forced to commit suicide every day but the government and price control institutions were acting as silent spectators.
He added that the load-shedding of gas and electricity during Sehri and Iftar timings in all small and big cities of Sindh, including Karachi, had made the lives of people miserable.
