Call to make Punjabi language part of syllabus

LAHORE:A seminar was held here Wednesday in connection with the International Mother Language Day observance, under the auspices of a private group of institutions.
Group Chairman Prof Abdul Manan chaired the event, while Punjabi poet Bashir Ahmad Najmi and singer Ustad Sajjad Bari were among the guests. Addressing the seminar, speakers said that Punjabi is our identity and it should be made part of the curriculum. Prof Abdul Manan told the audience that Punjabi is an ancient language and important steps are needed for its promotion. Poet Bashir Najmi stressed protecting Punjabi language. Singer Ustad Bari presented classical Punjabi poetry.
