I am writing to express my deep concern regarding the alarming increase in fires at commercial buildings in Karachi, especially as the winter season approaches. On December 6 (Wednesday), a devastating fire occurred near Ayesha Manzil, claiming five lives and causing immense damage. According to witnesses, the fire originated from a mattress shop at the front of the building and spread from there. This incident follows closely on the heels of another fire in a shopping mall less than two weeks ago.
These recurring incidents demand immediate attention from the authorities to identify the root causes, strengthen safety protocols, and fortify fire safety measures in commercial establishments. The frequency of such incidents is not only a threat to public safety but also a significant loss to businesses and the economy. The government must take immediate action to address this issue and implement stringent measures to prevent further tragedies.
