Exhibition to pay homage to Shakir Ali
LAHORE
“Homage to Shakir Ali”, a tribute to a legend by a legendary and world renowned Pakistani artist Masood Kohari, is the title of a unique exhibition being inaugurated at the Royaat Gallery, 21 Z, Phase III, DHA at 5pm on Wednesday.
The exhibition will be housing the paintings by Masood Kohari, who has been a long time close friend of Shakir Ali and is currently based in France.
Kohari has specially come here for this mega event only to participate and contribute to the centenary celebrations of Shakir Ali, the great artist and Art teacher of Pakistan who has his fame and his students sprawling all over the world.
Masood Kohari, born in 1937 in Bombay, is one of Pakistan’s foremost artistic masters.
The complexities of Kohari’s vision reflect the myriad properties of the mediums that he employs, including oil on canvas, clay, and glass. Dividing his time between Pakistan and France, Kohari has studied and mastered the techniques of working with these diverse mediums from a range of cultural traditions such as ceramics from Punjab and glasswork techniques from Italy. His fluency in these diverse mediums as well as experimentation with the conceptualisation of reality has been celebrated in Pakistan and internationally. He is the recipient of numerous artistic awards and honours. During his prolific career, Kohari has been at the centre of Pakistan’s artistic movement and has befriended key figures, including Shakir Ali — a friendship, which is the central inspiration for this show. The show will continue until April 12, 2016.
