The new wave of Pakistani cinema that’s taken the local film industry by storm over the last two years is characterized by a desire on part of the filmmakers to explore unchartered territory and that’s what makes it so exciting. One such example is Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy’s animated feature film 3 Bahadur. The Academy Award-winning director took on the challenge of making a full-length movie for children, the first of its kind, at a time when commercial films were still struggling to break even at the box office, and came out a winner. 3 Bahadur not only won critical acclaim but also managed to earn a respectable business of PKR 6.5 crores when it released in May.

Hot on the heels of this success comes the announcement that Waadi Animations, the company behind 3 Bahadur, will be coming out with a second part, set to release in December 2016. While the voice actors from the first installment, amongst them notable TV actor Bahroze Sabzwari, will be reprising their roles, 3 Bahadur Part 2 will also feature a number of other big names. Joining the cast are Ahmed Ali Butt, Ali Gul Pir, Sarwat Gilani, Fahad Mustafa, Salman Shahid and Zeba Shanaz.

In an official press release, Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy called the first film “a very special project” because it helped to inculcate a sense of pride and ownership in Pakistani children. “With 3 Bahadur Part 2, I want to make sure that Saadi, Kamil and Amna [the main characters bestowed with super powers] inspire bravery and fearlessness in every child across the country.”
