beauty

We are always in search of new talent and makeup techniques to bring the best to your sight. Today we have Pareesa, who has not just perfectly mastered the art of makeup, but she also knows her way to play around and experiment with different looks and products.

Pareesa has been in the beauty business since six years. She has been trained by various famous makeup artists like Mario Dedivanovic who is best known as the king of contour and a few other Pakistani makeup artists. She has also done complete hair and skin course from a well-known institute. We decided to get in touch with this talented girl to know her makeup secrets and peek into some summer trends that all of us need to be updated on…

You! What inspired you to become a beautician?

Pareesa: Ever since I was a small kid, I knew this is what I am meant to do. I like grooming people whether it’s by giving them a trim or putting makeup on them or doing their hair.

You! What’s the latest in makeup this season?

P: No-makeup look or minimal makeup are the new trends for this year; something that’s not too dramatic, cakey or overboard, but is clean, simple, and chic.

You! What makeup trends are totally over?

P: Extreme Instagram style makeup. Bold eyebrows, heavy foundation and contouring, exaggerated eye makeup, and overlining lips are totally done.

You! What kind of hairstyles are in this season?

P: I believe a neat, simple, and sleek look never gets out of fashion. For example, sleek bun, straight hair, sleek ponytail, or a beach wave.

You! What nail colours are in these days?

P: White, yellow and all pastel colours are in these days.

You! What beauty regimen should women adopt to take care of their skin in summers?

P: The most important is to remove makeup before sleeping (it’s a crime to sleep with your makeup on). And drink plenty of water and eat enough fruits and vegetables.

You! The must-have beauty product for the summer season...

P: For the summer, a must-have is a compact powder and a blotting paper.

You! What are your three favourite makeup products?

P: It’s actually difficult to choose. I love all my makeup. But if I really have to pick some, it would be concealer, mascara and lipstick.

You! Are smokey eyes still in vogue and how can we achieve this look?

P: Definitely, smokey eyes will never go out of style. For simple basic smokey eye, you can just blend your eyeliner with a brown or black eyeshadow and that’s the easiest and quickest smokey eye you can get.

You! What's your signature style?

P: My signature look would be my brown smokey eyes and if I have to describe my makeup style, it would be blend, blend, and blend. Blend your eyeshadow till your hand hurts.

You! Are there any trends that you absolutely love?

P: I absolutely love smokey eyes, love doing it on myself and clients, I feel it looks absolutely stunning on almost everyone.

You! It’s Quarantine-Shaadi season too, what kind of looks are in among brides-to-be?

P: The brides that are coming to me for their makeup want the same traditional gold eyes with red lips because they believe that makeup is the one thing that they can actually get done right and don’t want to compromise on that since they are already compromising in a lot of other things anyway.

You! Are women in Pakistan becoming more experimental when it comes to makeup?

P: Definitely women in Pakistan are actually willing to experiment with their makeup and even hair. We can see funky hair colours these days, we can see different lip colours. I saw a woman wearing blue lip colour and it actually looked amazing.

You! What are some common mistakes women tend to make while choosing makeup?

P: The most common mistake would be choosing the wrong shade of foundation; we often select a shade that is either not according to our skin or our undertones.

You! What three makeup items should no woman leave home without?

P: A lipstick, a compact powder, and a small makeup sponge!

You! What is the biggest challenge a makeup artist face?

P: People usually don’t understand that makeup can only hide some of the flaws of the skin but not all of it, for instance, you cannot make a pimple disappear with makeup, your skin should be clear to achieve the perfect flawless foundation. Skin is like a canvas if your canvas is not clean you cannot achieve a clean artwork.

You! How do you wish to make a change in the beauty scene in a metropolis?

P: The majority of the brides do not like to experiment with their makeup looks or even dresses that they wear on their big day. If I could change one thing, I would change this tradition of wearing red on the wedding day and having a red lipstick on a bride.

You! Any makeup tip you would like to share with your readers?

P: I like mixing a lot of products. If you want something to look different and nice, try mixing 2 products. For instance, mix 2 or 3 lipsticks to create your own shade.

You! What do you love most about your job?

P: The satisfying look that I see on my clients’ faces once their makeup is done. That’s the best feeling. It makes me happy.

You! Do you think social media is a good tool to reach more consumers?

P: Definitely! That’s how I started my work too!

You! What are you currently preoccupied with?

P: I have recently started my YouTube channel.

You! What are your future endeavours?

P: My plan for Pareesa.k is to have branches all over Pakistan and to come up with my own makeup line someday. Also, I want to be internationally recognised for my work.
