This week You! shares a few makeup looks which you can pull off best during winter...

beauty

By now, the winter weather is sneaking up on us. So, to jazz things up as the weather remains dreary, why not spice up your makeup routine? Adding new winter makeup looks to your repertoire can help brighten up those gloomy, way-too-cold days. Of course, how you care for your skin is important, too. Since the low humidity of winter can lead to dry skin, you don’t want to apply makeup - especially the face powder kind - over a dried-out complexion. Follow our guide below for a few gorgeous winter makeup looks, plus tips and tricks for prepping your skin for makeup application so you can achieve amazing looks, even when it’s truly frigid outside...

A satin finish can be achieved by a liquid highlighter &
a touch of it on the berry lips will enhance your pout as well.

Gold eyes & berry lips

To instantly glam up your look, swipe a bit of gold eye shadow, like the one in Too Faced Chocolate Gold Palette, all over your lid, then trace your upper lash line with the L’Oreal Super Slim Eyeliner.

Pair your gorgeous gold eye makeup look with a bright berry lip, like the Milani’s Naturally Chic shade, and you’ll be set with a makeup look that works from desk to parties.

The classic red pout

A maroon eye shadow is the perfect
colour for the fall to winter transition.

If you don’t have time for a full face makeup, no problem! A bit of lipstick is all you need to tie any look together, and nothing’s better than a bold, bright red pout. Try the Mac Ruby Woo lasting matte lipstick for a fuller and brighter lip.

Flushed cheeks

Create a natural-looking, rosy flush - which looks so cheery - with blush. Use the Mac Peach Twist Sheer Tone Shimmer Blush or Nars Orgasim and lightly sweep your shade of choice across the apples of your cheeks.

Sultry maroon eyes

Maroon is one makeup colour trend that’s not going away anytime soon, and we’re glad! One of our favourite ways to rock maroon makeup is on the eyes. First, apply a light brown or nude eye shadow colour, like the one in Jaclyn Hill Palette, as your base. Then, layer it with the maroon tone shadow from the same palette onto the outer corner of your upper lid. Next, trace along your upper lash line with the L’Oreal Paris Infallible The Super Slim Liquid Eyeliner in black. Finally, after you’ve put a coat or two of black mascara on your lashes, finish off with a few swipes of Benefit’s They’re Real Mascara.

All-over glow

Shimmer like a snow globe! Start by applying the L’Oreal Infallible Primer and Maybelline Age Rewind Concealer with your foundation (it can be L’Oreal Paris Infallible 24H Stay Fresh Foundation, Mac, Dior, Huda Beauty Fauxfilter, Makeup Forever Ultra HD or Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Hydrating Foundation), keep applying the foundation for maximum coverage all over your face. For concealers, you can also use Born This Way Naturally Radiant Concealer, Nars Creamy and Tarte Shapetape Concealer. Follow up by swiping the Fenty Beauty Diamond Bomb Highlighter in Rose Quartz onto your cheekbones, the bridge of your nose, and your chin.

For your brows only!

Another great way to rock a one-piece makeup look is by perking up your brows. When filled in correctly, your brows can really be a showstopper, all on their own. Use the Glossier Brow Flick, Maybelline’s Brow Precise, Anastasia’s Brow Wiz and Rimmel London Brow This Way Eyebrow Definer, which has an amazing, long-lasting formula, to fill in your brows naturally, and you’ll see just what we mean.

Bright blue eyes

Another makeup shade that’s perfect for the winter season? Cobalt blue. After applying your go-to nude or brown eye shadow, swipe on one to two coats of the L’Oreal Paris Unlimited Lash Lifting and Lengthening Waterproof Mascara Blackest Black. To finish off your look, add a cobalt blue accent to your lashes by coating the tips with the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Original Mascara in Cobalt Blue. So pretty!

Metallic inner corner

Want to add just a touch of festive spirit to your eye makeup look? Consider brightening your inner corner with a metallic eyeliner or eye shadow. After all, aren’t the holidays all about silver and gold? Wear neutral eye shadow, then apply a super slim eyeliner in gold or silver to your inner corner for a pop of metallic beauty.

5 makeup application tips for winter

With what feels like never-ending blustery winds and ever-dropping temperatures, it’s important to take special care of your complexion and keep a few things in mind when it comes to makeup application.

Tip# 1: Cleanse gently

A hydrating serum will help you achieve
a glowy skin even with light coverage
foundation.

You know that the dry weather can harm your skin so consider switching to a gentle cleanser, like micellar water, to remove your makeup at the end of the day. Try the L’Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser - Normal to Oily Skin or L’Oreal Paris Micellar Cleansing Water Complete Cleanser Waterproof - All Skin Types. Just saturate a cotton pad with the micellar water and wipe the pad across your skin-no rinsing or rubbing required.

Tip #2: Use a serum

Skin tends to feel drier in the winter, so be sure to hydrate post-cleansing. One of the best ways to help lock in moisture is to use a hydrating face serum and apply it directly onto damp skin right after cleansing.

Try the Ordinary Hyaluronic Acid Serum, which, per its name, is formulated with hyaluronic acid and helps provide long-lasting hydration.

For an airbrushed look, make sure to
conceal your undereyes & opt for a
wet highlight product after your
setting spray.

If you’re hesitant to add an extra step to your routine, remember, makeup applies much better to hydrated skin!

Tip #3: Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise

You might have guessed this already, but using moisturiser is an absolute must in the winter. In the daytime, layer on a lightweight moisturising cream that will work wonderfully with makeup applied overtop.

At night, you can amp things up with a thicker moisturiser or an overnight face mask.

Tip #4: Opt for a luminous finish foundation

Skin looking not only dry but a little dull this winter? Use a luminous finish foundation, like the L’Oreal Paris Infallible Pro-Glow Foundation, which offers buildable coverage with a hydrating finish.

Opt for a dark brow product to bold your brows.

Tip #5: Spritz on a setting spray

You may not be at risk of sweating off your makeup during the winter, but it still pays off to set your look and help your makeup last longer.

The easiest way to do this is with a few spritzes of the Urban Decay All Nighter Setting Spray  .
