From time to time in our ‘beauty talk’ section, we feature different designers who share their experiences, achievements and beauty secrets with us. This week You! talks to Lahore-based designer, Samar Abid...

From the exact point of extensive research to countless hours in production, to quality measures and finally where it is appreciated by clients. Samar Abid, an up and coming designer, likes to research the craft before designing it. Samar has recently launched her bridal and luxury wear brand, ‘Everthine’, which is a Greek English word that means ‘forever mine’. “From a very young age I have been interested in wanting to reconstruct design. I believed that I had the talent to pursue fashion designing. I just always knew that I wanted to create clothes - it was just a matter of time when I finally decided to set up my own brand.” Driven by a deep passion for aesthetics and creativity, she’s known within her clientele as someone who would not wither away from showcasing intricate work with attention to detailing.

You! What type of clothes do you design for women?

Samar Abid: We offer multitude of cuts and silhouettes for women. The top most concerns while designing are its harmony with surroundings and the comfort factor for the consumer besides being trendy and glamorous.

You! What was the first outfit that you designed?

SA: I designed an outfit with a western cut for my daughter’s farewell.

You! What is your design philosophy?

SA: We believe that design impacts all our lives in subtle and overt ways. Great design is more than just good aesthetics. Our brand endorses perfection in silhouettes and cuts, including all the visible and invisible aspects of an ensemble. Taking influences from different cultures, we rebuild things in our own vision. Our designs are harmonious, sophisticated and glamorous in which a client takes pride in wearing.

You! What do you like best about designing clothes?

SA: From conception of a design, sketching and implementing, it’s a beautiful journey of creativity and is very fulfilling.

You! What are your favourite fabrics to work with and why?

SA: Silk is my all-time favourite as it is regarded as most luxurious fabric on the planet. Silks, satin and lamé are some of the fabrics that I love to work with.

You! How would you define your own sense of style?

SA: My sense of style is chic, comfortable, elegant and modern.

You! In your opinion, what is the biggest mistake a person can make while dressing in Pakistan?

SA: In Pakistan, unfortunately, we are into rat race. Any fashion trend that gets popular is followed blindly by overlooking body requirements.

You! What are some of the difficulties faced by designers in getting their work done?

SA: Well in Pakistani society, commitments aren’t fulfilled. As fashion industry is dependent on labour class, they are largely unprofessional.

You! What trends do you think will carry on in the new season?

SA: New season is going to be punk, pretty and powerful ranging from ice cream pastels, flowy gowns and lots of bling.

You! Pinpoint one trend that puts you off?

SA: Lack of coherence in colour palette which breaks the harmony of a design.

You! Do you think there is potential for new designers in our fashion industry and what advice do you have for them?

SA: There is tremendous potential in the fashion industry, and new talent should definitely join this field since many new faces are coming in the limelight. I would advise emerging designers to be thoroughly professional and work hard with no compromise on quality.

You! What are your future plans?

SA: We have a studio in DHA, Lahore and plan to further expand in Islamabad and Karachi.
