While there is an array of desserts to choose from when we have a craving, there is something about desi sweets that nothing can replace. Barfi is a popular sweet that is enjoyed at many of our festivals; but did you know that it’s actually quite easy to make? And if you make the addition of almonds... oh then it becomes even more delicious! It is a rich recipe and this tantalising almond barfi can be prepared at any time, instantly! This week You! collaborates with cooking expert, Lubna Shariff, who brings you her delicious recipe for Badam Barfi.

Ingredients

Almond (ground finely) 1 cup

Sugar 3/4 cup

Milk 1/2 cup

Ghee 1/2 cup

Method

  • In a frying pan over a low flame, heat the ghee.
  • Then slowly mix almonds, sugar and milk and keep stirring.
  • Continue stirring on low heat until the mixture thickens to the consistency of bread batter.
  • Remove mixture from flame and pour it into a prepared greased pan; smoothen surface of the mixture if necessary.
  • Leave it to set for at least 15 minutes.
  • After it cools down a little, cut into squares using a knife or pastry cutter.
  • Garnish with silver leaf or whole almonds and serve!
