WELCOMING SUMMERS

beauty

Summer is here! Once more, the sweltering heat of the sun will cause our skin to tan and have our skin melting. When the weather changes, so does our skin. Throughout the summer, our skin goes through several modifications. Hence, we need summer skincare to shield our skin from extreme heat and humidity. Last year, the skincare craze was huge, from slugging to laminated skin, we saw it all, and this year we expect the frenzy over our skin to continue.

So, what can we expect in 2023, we hear you ask? Below are some of the trends you need to lookout for to keep your skin looking healthy this year…

WELCOMING SUMMERS

Skin minimalism

Skin-malism or skin minimalism, and scaling down skincare routines have been top priority, since a while now. There’s nothing wrong with a 10-step skin care regimen if you find joy in your routine, your skin is happy, and your wallet agrees to the splurge. But for those who want to keep it simple, you may want to opt for some skin minimalism. This term is just a buzzy name for an evergreen habit: keeping your products down to the necessities. This trend continues to flow into 2023 too. Keeping that in mind, we’ll see a rise in the use of multi-tasking products - skincare simplified. This year, people have been looking for products that go above and beyond (and take up less space on their bathroom shelf). As life has become busier, this year has seen an increase in interest around multi-purpose products that are less time-consuming but just as potent in healing and protecting the skin - which is a trend that will continue into 2023 as more people look to a simplified yet effective skincare routine.

Level up your SPF

Just using sunscreen can prevent a lot of summertime skin issues. It may seem straightforward to say that you should apply sunscreen in the summer, but it can be difficult to determine the minimum SPF needed to avoid skin issues.

Dermatologists concur that using effective UV protection is the most crucial element in any skincare regimen year-round, but it is more crucial in the summer when the days are longer, and you will unavoidably spend more time in the sun. Also, our recommendation is to apply SPF 50+ throughout the summer wherever you are exposed to the sun, not just while you are on the beach, to avoid dark spots and skin photoaging.

Skin cycling

When it comes to caring for your skin, more isn’t always better - and skin cycling proves it. This trend is already huge online and will help you achieve dewy-looking skin. Skin cycling is when you alternate different products on different days of the week to help maximise their usage and provide you with glowy and healthy skin. Skin cycling does two main things, it prevents irritation and allows you to get the most out of the products that you are using. Your morning skincare routines will stay the same, but it is your night-time routine that you should cycle to help nourish and improve your skin. Instead of piling more products on top of each other, skin cycling encourages people to use products strategically so that they actually complement one another.

It’s a hybrid

The fresh-faced, no-makeup look is here to stay. But the minimalist trend is getting a nourishing upgrade with the emergence of hybrid beauty products that essentially fuse two products in one. We’ve been seeing these multitasking products everywhere over the last few years, like the face tint consisting of a moisturiser plus a foundation, which gained popularity in this category. But thankfully for our skin, there are new iterations entering the market daily. We’ll also be keen to blur the boundaries between our skincare and makeup routines, to cut down on time and avoid over-layering our products. Makeup products with skincare ingredients are going to be a big hit. The focus is on skincare, always working to improve the quality of skin even whilst wearing makeup. We are already seeing this with SPF in makeup and lip oils instead of lip gloss, but it is going to become more refined and expected with more such products launching in the market.

Spotlight on body care

Much-loved skincare ingredients such as salicylic and glycolic acid and retinols are going to make their way to your body care routine too. Skin is the largest organ in our body, but skincare has almost always focused on the face. However, recently, there has been a lot more focus on body care. There are salicylic acid sprays, lotions, and body washes for body acne. Similarly, glycolic acid products are there for body pigmentation, lotions with retinol are available to decrease the appearance of stretch marks, while products with lactic acid can decrease the appearance of strawberry legs.

Focus on what’s inside

One of the most crucial things to do to enhance skin health is to drink more water. In the heat, drinking extra water might help the body rid itself of pollutants. Watermelons, coconut juice, and more options are available. Green leafy vegetables are also necessary to keep the body cool from within. Incorporate salads and vegetables like lettuce and cucumber into your meals since they aid in the food’s internal cooling.
