Students of Bahria University, BS’4 Media Studies recently visited one of the city’s hidden gems, The Dawood Foundation (TDF) Magnifiscience Center (MSC) located in the heart of Karachi, near I.I. Chundrigar Road.
A place for visual learners, fun experiments and interactive learning, TDF MSC is Pakistan’s first ever modern and interactive science museum that gives a chance to not just children but also adults to learn about complex scientific concepts in a fun and interactive manner.
These learning spaces help students understand in-depth about the different themes of science. MSC comprises of a ground-plus-two structure as well as an outdoor science garden and activity area that has been structured for different age groups. The ground floor houses ‘The Kids Word’ for younger kids whereas the first and the second floor are for older children and adults.
On the first floor, themed ‘World within Us’, there are different sections like the human body section, light, sound and much more. The students experienced the RGB room, Frozen Shadow room where they discovered the idea of how light can change perspectives. Other activities like the Anti-Gravity Room showcase the idea of how illusions can play with a person’s mind.
The second floor, themed ‘Physical World’, the different sections were given to more complex scientific terms like mathematics, motion and energy. Here the students discovered momentum, pulley system and different type of puzzles.
TDF MSC also has a cafeteria on the ground floor in addition to an outdoor dining and sitting area on the first floor for visitors. At the science garden, there is a navigation maze and also an obstacle course.
This one of its kind science center is open Monday to Thursday with a ticket of Rs. 700/- and open on Saturday and Sunday with a ticket of Rs. 800/- while being closed on Fridays.
