  • Born on 13th July 1969 in Detroit, Michigan, U.S.
  • Parents are South Korean immigrants.
  • Graduated from Duke University in 1990.
  • Obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill School of Medicine in 1995. Is a licensed physician.
  • Developed his stand-up comedy while doing his internal medicine residency.
  • Practiced medicine for several years before giving it up in favour of his acting career.
  • Made his TV debut in The Big Easy (1997) and film debut in Knocked Up (2007), the latter earning him some attention. Has gone on to appear in movies including Zookeeper (2011), Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011), and Ride Along 2 (2016), as well as The Hangover trilogy (2009 – 2013) which brought him recognition.
  • Has also starred in the TV series Community (2009 – 2015) and Dr. Ken (2015 – 2017).
  • Has been married to physician Tran Ho since 2004. They have twin daughters (born 2007).
