Is the oldest of five children.
Is the great-great-grandson of William Willett, who made daylight saving time a recognised practice.
Studied at University College London where he met his future Coldplay bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion, forming the group in 1996.
Gained international fame with his band upon the release of their debut album, Parachutes, in 2000; they have since released six further albums – A Rush of Blood to the Head (2002), X&Y (2005), Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends (2008), Mylo Xyloto (2011), Ghost Stories (2014), and A Head Full of Dreams (2015).
Was married to American actress Gwyneth Paltrow from 2003 till their conscious uncoupling in 2014; their divorce was finalized in 2016. They have two children together – daughter Apple (born 2004) and son Moses (born 2006).
Was a vegetarian for a while but started eating meat again after his split with Paltrow.
Is godfather to actor Simon Pegg’s daughter. Pegg – along with Buckland – is Apple’s godfather.
Is passionate about issues of fair trade.
