How does it feel when you have been studying the most in class but, instead of appreciating your efforts

FIGHT BACK

How does it feel when you have been studying the most in class but, instead of appreciating your efforts, your peers laugh at you? They do not laugh at you because they think you are funny but because you made the mistake of paying attention in class while they didn’t. How does it feel when you are walking in the school ground with a book in your hands and someone, from behind, snatches it to never give you back?

You probably feel a terrible lurch in your stomach; wondering what you did do to deserve this behaviour.

You don’t understand why someone is mocking you for doing the right thing. This intelligence and hard working attitude has made your parents proud - and for you, this sensation is amazing as well. But in your heart you’re also cursing yourself at the same time because your peers deride you for your interest in studies. You do not want to excel in school because of the fear of backlash.

Have you ever faced such a situation? I am sure most of you have. Nowadays, bullying a geek has become very normal. People who choose to stand out by utilizing their studying skills are often bullied for it. And it’s not even their fault.

Bullying can cause a lot of problems in a student’s life. A person can develop a lack of expressiveness, and mostly remain quiet in his own world. It can lead to social isolation, depression, anxiety and loneliness. These problems can even lead to suicidal tendencies or criminal activities.

Even if a person recovers from such effects, he cannot forget them and will always remain conscious in whatever he is trying to do.

These bullies basically cover their incompetency by teasing you and making you feel bad. They try to hide their inability to achieve things by ruining your confidence in your capabilities. They present all this as something “cool”.

But that’s not the real reason why they are doing all this! In their hearts, they fear someone else’s dominance and talents. They don’t want you to grow. They want you to drown.

Owing to their assertiveness, they’ll convince you to hate yourself. But you should also remember that “dumbing down” for others will never work in your favour. Your life is not about them. It is about YOU and how you choose to live it. You don’t have to take blame for their insecurities. It’s not your fault that you value your parents’ hard work and money and they don’t. You were born to do this and they were born to do that.

Bullies don’t realise that the creativity they expend in making people feel miserable can be channelled in a better direction. Most of them think they’d have an influence on everybody for as long as they live, which isn’t really true. In the long run, the nerds or geeks they had intimidated back in school move on in life and don’t have time to remember their school bullies. They have other important things to be taking care of, you know, like managing a large telecommunication company or maybe even spearheading a scientific discovery.

Moral of the story: Well, if you’re a straight A student currently being harassed for taking interest in studies and working hard to secure good grades, don’t take it to your heart. You’ll go on and achieve milestones in life. Yes, you are a nerd, you are a geek and you are proud of being one. Go thrive!
