Hello Ed,

Most of us can relate to Iqra Asad’s story “Bad News Day” (April 7)! This is exactly what happens in my house; sometimes family discussions can be tense, but you can often find them interesting and heart-warming. I remember when I got a B in intermediate exams, my parents had several meetings with me. They advised me to repeat second year to improve my grades so that I could get admission in a better university.

Parents should take interest in their children’s academic progress and help them in making the right choices. So, round-table conferences are highly recommended at homes, especially on “Bad Days”!

Looking forward to the next part. Illustrations were also great!

Amna Zohaib Khan,

Hey Eddy,

Oh, I must confess “Trust Us” is my favourite section. No matter how tricky the situation is, Guru always comes up with a viable solution. A thumbs up to Guru!

Well, I came across Fiza’s letter in the April 7 issue and thought to share my views on it. I think life is already so complicated; why complicate it further, Fiza?

Imagine if a guy says he has problems with his fiancée and wants some advice on how he should behave, and the Guru in response bashes the guy, saying that he shouldn’t have got engaged to such a troublesome girl in the first place, do you think that guy would feel any better? People send their problems to Guru so that they could get some help; they need advice that works best in their context. That is why I have always found Guru’s advices sound and practical.

Hi Ed,

Had fun reading “Confessions of a student” (April 7) by Hafsa Saeed! It was great to know that as students, we are all in the same boat doing great with our “little harmless lies”. Please do publish light stuff!

Good Friday treat

Hi Editor,

There is nothing like the sweet aroma of hot cross buns wafting through the house. Good Friday always begins with this baked delight and symbolically these fruity buns mean a lot to Christians. Misquita bakery in Saddar offers the best hot cross buns in the city, but to get them means you have to wait for a long time outside the bakery. So this time we have planned to make them at home; after checking out a few recipes online, I think baking these buns at home wouldn’t be difficult at all. And yes, it would be fun to make them with my mother and sisters!

Query

Hey Editor,

Where can I send my poems?

Asma Ladak

Send your poems at: uspoetscorner@gmail.com

Hello Ed,

I really enjoy reading Us magazine and have always wanted to send my contributions. I have some write-ups that were well-received on my blogs, so I was wondering if you guys could publish them. Please let me know what you think about it.

Farhan Yousuf

Farhan, we would love to have your contributions, if they have not been published elsewhere and are interesting and relevant to youth. If articles are already there on your blog, we are afraid we can’t take them.

US MAILReflection

Narrated by Abu Shuraih Al-Adawi (R.A):

My ears heard and my eyes saw the Prophet (S.A.W) when he spoke, “Anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his neighbor generously, and anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should serve his guest generously by giving him his reward.” It was asked. “What is his reward, O Allah’s Apostle?” He said, “(To be entertained generously) for a day and a night with high quality of food and the guest has the right to be entertained for three days (with ordinary food) and if he stays longer, what he will be provided with will be regarded as sadaqa (a charitable gift). And anybody who believes in Allah and the Last Day should talk what is good or keep quite (i.e. abstain from all kinds of dirty and evil talks).”

Sahih Bukhari, Volume 8, Book 73, Number 48.
