POEMS FOREVER
The Falling Star
By Sara Teasdale
I saw a star slide down the sky,
Blinding the north as it went by,
Too burning and too quick to hold,
Too lovely to be bought or sold,
Good only to make wishes on
And then forever to be gone.
A complete poem
By Gulzar
Translated by Suhd Nazeer
A poem travels to my lips,
from the recesses of my chest
But fails to come out,
As words seem to flutter
Shyly away from the page.
Except your name in the start, Love,
blank is the rest of the page.
Your name’s complete though,
Could this poem be any better?
Blank verse
By SM Hassan Raza
The grass the trees the world as it appears,
Are they to torment just miserable hearts?
For what, seamstress, Young Werther was to take his life?
For what reason are we made captives and idolizers?
I sought a way out of your lane the other day,
One way or the other it led me back to your threshold,
For they favour incarceration over purposeless freedom,
Those whom you locked with the locks of your hair,
Caprice callousness and craft are your weapons,
How else could one kill without a knife or rapier?
Is this not enough for a man’s doom?
Death is but deliverance for distressed hearts.
Nobility in martyrdom is no more notoriety in drunkenness,
Way apart are the sublime battlefield and the taverns door.
Nightmare
By Zarmeen Khalid
Stars shone bright
Darkness flapped its wings
What a coincidence it was
Despite all radiance,
Murkiness ruled
Engulfed all the light
She closed her eyes
Let the sky celebrate
The quietus of her desires!!
Flight, is all for kite
By Hassan Kamal
As high as kites
Spiraling in gray skies
A trance with the winds
Stringed, to hands unseen
Where in each rise
there’s a test of faith
and then a fall
so hold on to string
A careless dance,
with whispering winds
frenzied to euphoric heights
blinded with belief
Up and down, way it goes
Rise beyond horizons
or a fall, to abysmal depths
Flight is all, life of a kite
Enigmatic thunder jolts
By Mahd Mahmood
In a state of oblivion...
Yet, this rain is keeping me calm...
Assuring the tranquility...
In between the enigma of my life...
The ominous thunder jolts...
Resurrecting the inner me...
Dear denial! You are being missed...
Let it rain —- Let it rain...
Lost in thinking
Mahvash Irshad
Never thought, I’d be standing on this dreadful edge.
Surrounded by fear
Now I can hardly dwell
For death and I are very near.
Drenched in sweat,
Sins flash in my mind that I’ve committed.
And tears of regret fall from my eyes,
Thinking, why, why I did it?
I see the rising furious flames,
I hear the people shrieking.
Letting the fire swallow them,
How easily they give up!
One step ahead, I’ll be in hell.
One step back, I can stay safe.
“Jump, you’ve been bad”, the mind tells.
“Give yourself one more chance”, the heart whispers.
I know, I’ve done the things I shouldn’t do,
I’ve said things I shouldn’t have,
But why turn into ashes?
When I can be a better person from yesterday.
Treacherous player
By Hira Zaryaab
Mind is a treacherous player,
Still,
yet not still
Conquering decisions of the heart
Parallel to the world,
Everyday,
Every hour,
Breathing into the soul,
Those despicable morals
So close to acuity
Same old,
Yet not old
Mind is a complex orthodox
Living in a maze,
Where heart is not found
