Dear Ed,

In the 6 June issue, I read the problem shared by Broken Child, and it felt like déjà vu – something very similar happened to me. I was fortunate, though, because our maid took pity on me and gave me the emotional support I so badly needed. I’m 20 now and probably shouldn’t still be affected by something that happened so long ago, but whenever I think back to those days, the heartbreak of that 8-year-old girl still brings me to tears. I believe a counselling page featuring stories like this should become a regular part of the magazine, at least once a month. Many teens and people in their twenties read Us, and if they have younger siblings going through something similar, maybe it would encourage them to step in and help ease their pain.

Hi Ed,

I read the Eid issue (6 June) from cover to cover, mainly because I was bored, as the Eid holidays felt unusually long this year. Believe it or not, it’s only the second day of Eid and here I am, writing to you! The cover story ‘Celebrating Eid’ by Hissam Ali, while decent in terms of message, felt a little dry and lacked the fun or festive vibe one would expect from an Eid special. That said, I do agree with the writer’s observations about the unhygienic conditions in our cities – it’s a serious issue that needs more attention.

On a brighter note, I absolutely loved the back cover! I mean, who doesn’t love mangoes? It instantly lifted the mood.

However, I was a bit surprised and disappointed that there was no mention of Pakistan’s recent squash achievements. Noor Zaman, Hamza Khan, and Mehwish have brought the sport back into the spotlight with their incredible performances, and I believe Us should definitely highlight such milestones. Not only would this celebrate our local heroes, but it could also inspire young readers to take a greater interest in sports, perhaps even take up squash themselves.

Covering local success stories – in sports, arts, or academics – could be a great way to motivate the youth and show them that they, too, can achieve great things with dedication and effort.
