Respected Editor, Assalamoalaikum,
Thank you very much for publishing everyone’s work. I really appreciate the feedback given by Hassan S. Khan of Karachi on my article Prickly Perfection in his letter (25 April issue). He is right! In response, I would like to say that I admit I couldn’t include expert opinions, even though I know an experienced grower. Due to the limited word count, I also didn’t discuss the environmental risks of growing cacti - this does not mean I am unfamiliar with them. Regarding the point about the carbon footprint of mass production: I’d like to clarify that only fungi and algae require spore prints for their propagation, as they belong to a different kingdom of organisms. Succulents, on the other hand, are plants and behave as such - they can be easily propagated by planting a fresh stem cutting in soil and watering it.
In the same issue, the letter by Zainab Ghafoor titled Deforestation - a serious threat reminded me of a poem ‘They have cut down the pines’ by Mary Lisle. Can’t say more than this: peace.

Hey Editor,
I really like Us magazine, which is specially designed for the youth. In today’s era, book reading has become rare, but this magazine - with its engaging content and attractive cover - encourages young people to read. I have a suggestion: please promote Pakistan’s rich culture by featuring pictures of famous places and traditions from different provinces, along with their historical background. The ‘Poets’ Corner’ is a great section, and I enjoy ‘Bits ‘n’ Pieces’ because every week I learn something new and interesting.
In this week’s issue, I especially liked The politics of blood and symbolism by Mudassar Javed Baryar. I believe a follow-up story to celebrate Pakistan’s brilliant success would be a great idea. A profile on Pakistan’s new crush, Air Vice Marshal Aurangzeb Ahmed, would also be a timely and appreciated addition.
