Dear Editor,

The pressure of studies is a serious issue for most students of Pakistan. Unfortunately, teachers are no longer serious about teaching their students during school hours as they give private tuitions after school time. As a result, those students who cannot afford to pay for their tuition fees suffer. This tuition culture can be done away with if school administration keeps a check on teaching in class rooms. When I was in school, once a month our exercise books were sent by our class teacher to our principal. Teachers were always on their toes because they didn’t want the principal to see any slipshod correction work. My point is that school administration should become proactive to ensure that teachers give their best to students. This would be of great help to both parents and students.

Hi Ed,

I loved the cover story ‘For the love of tennis’ (8 September) by Shaza Khalid, and must say it was very timely. I am ashamed to admit I didn’t know what grand slam actually meant before I read it! In the same issue, ‘From silence to impact’ by Dr. Ahmed Hassan Nadeem was worth reading. About the story, I just want to say that words are very important but more than that it is how we say something that is of greater value. Besides, all of us do not have the gift of the gab that can diffuse tense situations. To make an impact with words, we must have control over our emotions. These things should be taught in school. Students should be encouraged to meditate, but no one cares.
