Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy met on the set of Woman of the Year (1941). They were attracted to each other and soon began a clandestine affair (though many people knew about it) which lasted until his death in 1967. Tracy was a Roman Catholic and since his wife Louise would not ask for a divorce, he would not go against the precepts of his religion.

Christopher Reeve starred in four Superman movies and several other movies and television programmes. Horseback riding in 1995, he was thrown and suffered a cervical spinal injury, becoming a quadriplegic as a result. He lobbied on behalf of people with spinal cord injuries until his death of cardiac arrest in 2004.

Dana Morosini Reeve had guest roles on Law & Order, All My Children and Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She was also a singer and talk show host. She married Christopher Reeve in Massachusetts in 1992. In 2005, she announced that although she had never smoked cigarettes, she had lung cancer. She died in 2006.

They were wed in 1964, and divorced in 1974. Thinking they made a mistake, they re-wed in 1975 but were divorced again in 1976. Both did some of their best film work after they got married (the first time). Both were married several times over their lifetimes. He died in 1984, she in 2011.

10 A - Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward

Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward knew each other before acting in The Long, Hot Summer in 1957 when they fell in love. Both were Academy Award winners. They appeared in eleven films together. The Newmans celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in 2008; he died later that year.
