Dear Ed,
I would like to draw the attention of our youth to a significant event in the United States. The former President of the US, Donald Trump, is known and popular for his unique style of politics. So far, he is the leading Republican candidate for next year’s presidential election. He is facing legal action against him on 37 serious charges, including concealing classified documents, wilful failure to return them and obstruction of justice.
Donald Trump was arrested on 13 June for the second time in the past few weeks in an appearance before a Miami magistrate, not even in a superior court. However, the 77-year-old former US president surrendered to the law enforcement agencies, showing respect for the law without any attempt to avoid arrest and without any resistance, and his release was also in process after the initial court proceedings of five hours. If these allegations are proved, he could be sentenced to 100 years in prison.
There is certainly a lot to learn from this incident for our politicians, judicial heads, analysts and intellectuals who follow the example of the West in respect of rule of law but adopt the opposite attitude in their own country.
