Hub bridge restoration

Dear Editor,

Through Us magazine, I would like to draw the government’s attention to the Hub River bridge issue. Located at the confluence of the Sindh and Balochis-tan provinces, the bridge has been closed to traffic after the recent floods in Karachi due to rain debilitated its piers and destroyed them.

Since restoration in 1992, the bridge has been in very poor condition. Experts have issued several cautions about the structure. Commuters face many problems because of the broken bridge. In addition, the business of merchants in Hub has been severely affected. Cities such as Turbat, Panjgur and Gwadar are linked to bypass roads.

A temporary road was built under the bridge over the river. According to the media, there are security issues, therefore ordinary people cannot travel on it and the governments must ensure strict security. The government also needs to restore the bridge within a year to alleviate people’s suffering.
