The man behind Moor, Jamshed Mahmood – popularly known as Jami, was interrogated by the police in Palm Springs, California for using the words ‘ISIS’, ‘Afghanistan’ and ‘Pakistan’ in his conversation with a couple of friends, according to media reports.
The director, with his friends including an American Army officer, was having a conversation at Coffee and Beans; they were discussing his next cinematic venture. We imagine that these words popped up casually in their conversation and it triggered off panic amongst people around them, who actually called the police in panic! The event took place after the screening of Moor.
Talking to media, the director calls it a misunderstanding. “I was with Shah, Hameed Sheikh and an American friend discussing the script for our next movie. The words ISIS, Pakistan and Afghanistan were used in the conversation. I asked everyone to avoid these words before we get in trouble but by that time someone had overheard us and called the police,” he explained.
“‘The police looked at our documents, took pictures and asked the purpose of our visit. We explained the whole scenario after which they let us go. I know they were just doing their job as things are on high alert in USA,” he added.
The event received mixed reactions from Pakistan’s film and entertainment industry where a greater majority was not happy regarding what happened. Others still stressed the notion that the industry and how things were being operated therein were not the same as before. Imagine what had happened had the police found a copy of 021 on Jami!
