Kapil Sharma may be known for his originality and fresh comic ideas across both ends of the Pak-India border but Pakistani comedian Umer Sharif begs to differ. The veteran, whose last stint on Indian television was as a judge for the reality series The Great Indian Laughter Challenge along with Siddu and Shekhar Suman, was invited as a guest on a local television talk show last weekend where he claimed that comedians in India lack spontaneity including the likes of Kapil Sharma.

Umer went onto reveal that quite a few of Kapil’s punchlines on his popular show Comedy Nights with Kapil replicate those of his own from his stage shows and in fact the very format of Kapil’s show has been copied from Umer’s famous stage play Bakra Qistoon Pay that can be credited for instilling a dose of vibrant humour to the country’s rather sombre theatre culture back inthe ’90s.

This, however, isn’t the first time Umer’s work has been ripped off. Umer’s rendition of the song ‘Larka Badnaam Hua’ in his film Mr. Charlie was copied word to word and turned into the now famous Bollywood song ‘Munni Badnaam Huwi’ for Salman Khan’s Dabangg without seeking his permission.

Double Bill: Priyanka Chopra makes a splash with Quantico, Dil Dhadakne Do

Looks like 2015 will be the year of Priyanka Chopra. The actress, who was once typecast with remakes (Don 2, Agneepath) and struggling for gritty roles, is now back in the spotlight with two dynamic projects.

First up is her new American TV show, an action-thriller series called Quantico, which will air on ABC later this year. In the show, Priyanka plays a feisty FBI agent Alex Parrish. The first trailer of the upcoming series has just released and it’s captivating. It opens with the lines: “My name is Alex Parrish. Protecting our country has always been my dream.”

Okay, so maybe it sounds a little inspired by Homeland but it’s still too early to make a comparison.

As the trailer continues, the plot unravels, and one learns that Alex Parrish (Chopra) is part of a group of ‘top recruits’ for the FBI who are trained for upcoming missions all around the United States and internationally.  However, things go terribly awry as “the biggest terrorist attack on New York City since 9/11” occurs and an insider is suspected by the FBI, which puts the alleged blame on Parrish.  It’s now her job to prove her innocence, or ultimately feel the wrath. We’ll just have to wait and watch how this one fares.

In the meantime, Priyanka Chopra is also appearing in Zoya Akhtar’s all-star film, Dil Dhadakne Do alongside Farhan Akhtar, Anil Kapoor, Shefali Shah, Anushka Sharma and Ranveer Singh.

In fact, Priyanka has sung the title track alongside Farhan Akhtar, so while you wait on Quantico, check out the music video for DDD’s title song which marks the reunion of Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma on screen.
