Theatre director Dawar Mehmood recently announced the launch of theatre adaptation of one of Haseena Moin’s hit dramas Ankahi. Titled Ankahi 2020, the upcoming production has been in the works for some time, with Sajid Hasan and Saqib Sameer adapting the script. The first look of the musical is out, featuring model turned actress Amna Ilyas, who will be starring as the protagonist Sana.
Directing the play under Kopykats Productions, Dawar Mehmood took to social media and announced that Ankahi 2020 is all set to premiere on March 25 at the Karachi Arts Council. He stated, “It is not Ankahi. It is my tribute to Haseen Moin’s Ankahi; 25th March everyone!”
The theatre adaptation of Ankahi has an ensemble cast; however there are a few changes in the number and nature of characters as compared to the drama serial. Earlier this year, at the press conference for the play, Dawar shared that the upcoming version is not set in 1982 and has been modified to make it relevant to the year 2020.
Wahab Shah will handle choreography; Abbas Ali Khan will take care of the live score given that Ankahi 2020 is a musical and Hunny Haroon is serving as the art director. It features Sohail Hashmi, Waqar Ali, Taha Humayun, Ali Sheikh and Shafqat Khan in addition to Amna Ilyas.
